Sound of Music Field Trip
Our Grade 1 – 4 students have an exciting opportunity coming soon. On Friday, March 10th we will travel to the Timms Centre at the University of Alberta to watch a live performance of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music, presented by the award winning Cantilon Choirs of Edmonton.
This beloved musical tells the story of Maria, a young woman who brings love and music back into the home of Captain Von Trapp and his seven children. The music is well-known, and students have been preparing to attend this event by viewing the Academy Award winning film and by learning two of the songs for the sing-a-long portion of the live performance on March 10th. I am certain that with this exposure to the film and our discussions about the story, the students will have a solid understanding of the musical and will be well prepared to enjoy and participate in the live show. Their involvement in this cultural activity also gives students an opportunity to practice performance etiquette and will enrich their life experiences.
Our school’s PTA has graciously agreed to cover the costs of three busses for us to attend the performance, so students need only pay for their seat to the show. Cost per student is $11. Please use the student portal to pay online for your child’s seat. Also, please fill in and return the attached permission form to your child’s teacher no later than Monday, March 6, 2017.
